EFN’s Advisory Board advises EFN on direction, growth and expanding the network of members and partners as well as on developing funding sources. Our Advisory Board is comprised of long-time mentors who are leaders in university education, entrepreneurship and investing.
David Arscott has spent his entire professional career investing in private and public technology companies. Initially, he joined the group which became Citicorp Venture Capital Limited (“CVC”) in New York. He established CVC’s West Coast Office in 1973 which served as the focus of CVC’s investing activities in the western United States for over 15 years. In 1978, he left to co-found Arscott, Norton & Associates (“ANA”), which formed three venture capital funds whose $75 million in capital funded 36 high-technology companies, including Iomega, Lam Research and Dallas Semiconductor (subsequently merged with Maxim Semiconductor – “MXIM” on the NASDAQ).
In 1988, David formed what is now Compass Technology Group. Compass funded Tesla Motors, Inc. (“TSLA” on the NASDAQ), Radio Therapeutics, acquired by Boston Scientific; Oculex Pharmaceuticals, acquired by Allergan; and among others. He co-manages the firm’s investment portfolios. David earned a B.A. degree in History and Economics at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio and an MBA in Finance and Accounting at the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business. David served as a director of Lam Research Corporation (“LRCX” on NASDAQ) for over 30 years, retiring from the board in 2011. He is currently a director of Toolwire, Percutaneous Systems, and Dragnet Solutions. He serves as a Director and Trustee of the IT History Society ( http://www.ithistory.org/ ).
Edward Chan-Lizardo is a senior executive with extensive public-private sector experience in both emerging markets and developed markets. Ed is currently the Director of Global Development, Asia, for Columbia University.
Ed served as COO and Chief Development and Partnership Officer at KickStart International, a leading international development non-profit. Results oriented with demonstrable achievements. Strong people management skills; capacity & infrastructure building experience; and business development & partnerships experience. Currently, Chief Development and Partnership Officer for KickStart International, an award-winning non-profit & social enterprise with a mission to help people out of poverty. KickStart designs, markets, and sells simple moneymaking technologies that subsistence farmers buy and use to start highly profitable family businesses. The profits from their business enable them to escape from poverty resulting in sustainable economic development. Edward’s education includes Executive Education in Social Entrepreneurship at INSEAD in France, an MBA from the University of Michigan, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech.
Alex Hehmeyer is an executive, entrepreneur and attorney with CEO and other C-level management, Board of Directors, M&A experience in several service industry sectors: financial services, postsecondary education and training, software and SaaS, private equity investing, franchising, corporate law, restaurants and management consulting. His expertise includes: strategic alliances and partnerships; debt and equity financings involving banks, leasing companies, private equity, VC and Angel investors, and IPOs; mergers and acquisitions and asset purchases and sales; and workouts and turnarounds. Currently, Alexander is the Chairman of the Danville Group (Rootstock Software) that provides ERP and MRP software for SMB manufacturers. He is also the chief executive of AMH Ventures that is active in small-company private equity investing and consulting. Previous experience includes C-level positions with : BenefitStreet, Inc. (Financial services), Career Choices, Inc. (accredited, degree-granting, proprietary, postsecondary schools), California Culinary Academy, Inc. (Publicly-traded, leading, accredited, degree-granting, postsecondary culinary school), Richard C. Blum & Associates, Inc. (Merchant bank and registered investment adviser.), Attorney, Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro (Major San Francisco-based law firm) (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.) Other experience and affilations include: Member of the Alliance of CEOs. Director of several non-profit groups, including Big Brothers, WildCare, and the Golden Gate Restaurant Association. EDUCATION: BA, Yale University. JD, UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall).
Dinesh Katiyar is a Partner with Accel Partners a leading global venture capital firm headquartered in Palo Alto, California with regional offices in China, Europe and India.. Before joining Accel, Dinesh was Vice President at Citrix, where he managed a suite of cloud and virtualization products. At Accel, he focuses on early stage cross-border (U.S./India) companies, in such areas as technology, Internet, and mobile. Dinesh has been a successful serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. He was a Founder at iLeverage (acquired by E.piphany) and SayNow (acquired by Google), and CEO at Small Device (acquired by Digital Chocolate). He also held positions with Sun and Motorola. Dinesh holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, India.
Wayne C. Larocque is an independent angel investor, and the Founder and Principal of Larocque & Associates, LLC., a consulting firm that specializes in fundraising and business development strategy for early stage companies. Wayne’s consulting clients include not only a wide variety of young companies in the technology and clean tech sectors, but also companies on the funding and advisory side of the business, such as Acuity Ventures, LLC, a Silicon Valley venture capital fund, Balestra Capital, LLC, a New York City investment advisory firm, and Hedge Fund Advisors, LLC, a Florida investment advisory service that specializes in risk-adjusted, alternative investment vehicles. Wayne’s professional experience began with large-company sales and executive level marketing positions at Combe, Inc. and Neutrogena UK, Ltd., where he worked on European product launches for both companies. He then began working independently as a contract marketing agent with various British and American marketing firms, including Paine-Williams, Inc., which was the American marketing agency of record for the launch of the World League of American Football. Wayne was subsequently the co-founder of Professional Sports Services, Inc., a sports management and marketing company, and the co-founder of Fogel, Nuremberg & Larocque, a New York merchant banking group that provided capital and strategic services to early stage companies.
Wayne has also devoted a considerable part-time effort to several non-profit environmental, humanitarian and international relief organizations while serving on the board of three non-profit groups based in the US, Japan and Africa, including the Asian Rural Institute, the Cape Town International Film Festival and the American Chestnut Foundation. Wayne’s education includes a B.A. in Anthropology from Stanford University and executive training programs at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
In a career spanning 35 years, Richard Mueller helped build two multibillion-dollar financial services companies, a venture capital firm, and three internationally recognized research and consulting firms. For the past decade, he has been a private investor, board member and advisor to non-profits and companies in a broad range of industries.
Richard was a partner of Origo Social Enterprise Partners, a research and advisory organization focused on the creation and advancement of sustainable businesses in emerging markets. Prior to joining Origo in 2004, he was a principal of R.J. Rudden Associates, Inc. (acquired by Black & Veatch Corporation), a leading provider of strategic, economic and management consulting services to the world’s energy markets. Before joining Rudden in 1998, Richard was a special situations consultant to public and private corporations, frequently serving in an interim managing capacity. From 1986 to 1991, he was managing director of Commercial Scientific Corporation, a venture capital firm with domestic and overseas investments in information services, technology, manufacturing, and science-oriented companies.
Richard’s early work was in the financial services industry where he earned an international reputation as a pioneer in the application of computer technology to mature financial markets. In 1984, he joined the founding management team of First Deposit Corporation (now owned by JPMorgan Chase), a consumer banking and financial services firm. Richard started working with financier Harvey Baskin in 1981 to build CDx, the first real-time computerized trading exchange for money market instruments, which achieved $1 billion in annualized trading volume in its first eight months of operation.
Richard is deeply involved in the sustainable enterprise and nonprofit sectors and has guided several organizations through watersheds in their evolution. He serves on the board of directors of Enterprise Futures Network, and is a member and immediate past chairman of the advisory board of the Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Enterprise at Colorado State University. He was chairman of the board of Family Service Agency of San Francisco (now called the Felton Institute) the city’s oldest and largest nonsectarian, nonprofit social services provider. Richard also served on the board of directors of the National Association for Business Economics in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Mary Spaeth teaches entrepreneurship at Texas State University in Austin Texas. She is also President of Transmera AB, based on the Mjärdevi Science Park in Sweden, specializes in entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, and international market strategy. She served as director of marketing for the Northwestern University/Evanston Research Park, Executive Vice President of ANGLE Technology, and as the executive director of the East Sweden Development Agency. In the United States, Mary has taught at Southern Methodist and Loyola Universities as a full time lecturer in English, and as adjunct professor in Marketing Communications at National Louis University in Chicago. She has taught entrepreneurship and business development as adjunct faculty at Linköping University in Sweden, lecturer in Corporate Entrepreneurship at the University of the West of Scotland, and innovation and technology management at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Mary has started and managed three companies, including an advertising agency in Chicago and a technology commercialization management firm in Sweden through which she assists companies and governments on questions regarding new business development. She serves on the board of advisors for the Swedish Academy of Realist Art, for the Institute of Arts Entrepreneurship in Chicago, and for Scrive, an e-contracting start-up in Stockholm, and is a member of the board of directors for the Swedish Fulbright Commission. Mary has a BA in Creative Writing and an MA in literature from SMU in Dallas, an MS in international child studies from Linköping University and an Masters in Philosophy in Business from the UK. She holds a PhD in business with a specialization in entrepreneurship in the creative industries from the University of the West of Scotland.
Dr. Ravi Thomas is an Adjunct Professor at Carnegie Mellon University–Silicon Valley. He also is the Director of Venture Bridge, a CMU accelerator. Ravi has held senior level executive positions at several startups. At EngageClick he was the CFO, also served as CFO of Yunteq, Inc., a provider of cloud orchestration software for public and private clouds, and consulting CFO at several other startups. Previously he was CFO of University Associates LLC (UA LLC). UA LLC formed by the Regents of the University of California and the FHDA Community Colleges holds the master lease on 77 acres of NASA Research Park at Moffett Field. A co-founder, CFO and a board member of Jareva Technologies he was involved in all aspects of the company from its founding as a service business, to its repositioning as a software product company, to the revenue stage and its successful exit through an acquisition by Veritas. Prior to founding Jareva he was the CFO of PostX, a company in the secure messaging arena. As CFO he was involved in raising over $30 million for PostX and Jareva. VCs that have invested in PostX and Jareva include Mayfield, Hummer Winblad, and Labrador. Prior to joining his first startup Dr Thomas was an Assistant Professor at the Fox School of Business at Temple University where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in microeconomics, economics of information, and public finance. He has also taught at Swarthmore College and was a Visiting Fellow at the International Monetary Fund. He received his undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics with First Class Honors and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Ray Beauchamp has spent over twenty years in sales, marketing communications, direct marketing, public relations, advertising, brand awareness, lead generation, as well as building strategic partnerships, alliances and major account growth.
Ray is a long-time mentor for EFN. He is a founding member of EFN and his mentoring dates back to EFN’s beginnings at UC Berkeley in 2003. In 2011, Ray mentored Next Drop that won the Global Social Venture Competition out of over 800 worldwide competitors.
As sales and marketing specialist in the high technology business to business marketplace, Ray’s background began in computer science. Ray has a working applied knowledge of social media, on-line, and print media. Ray has also worked in research, direct mail, and trade show business. He was a key strategic pre-IPO member of VerticalNet, an ASP based solution provider, with multiple industry specific web sites designed as on-line vertical trading communities, which provided hosted e-commerce and community capabilities. As Vice President and General Manager of VerticalNet’s Electronics Group, Ray led his team to be one of the most financially productive groups. He won several awards for his team and his leadership in outstanding sales, performance, and cost management. His previous background includes being a Premier and Strategic Account Manager for Cahners Business Publishing Co. where he was a Presidents Club member. Ray was the Western Sales Manager for the UTP Div of Hearst Business Publishing where he was awarded several years in a row for continuous sales growth. Ray has been a founder and investor in several successful start-up companies from initial concept through execution, development, and merger/sale. Currently, he is an key account executive for IEEE GlobalSpec.
